Architectural Design

Short biographical note

He studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens (Diploma of Architecture, 1998). He continued his studies in London where he obtained a Master of Architecture (Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, 1999-2000) and a Master of Philosophy (Royal College of Art, 2002-2004). In 2010 he earned his Doctorate Diploma (PhD) in architecture (National Technical University of Athens, 2010). Since 2005 he teaches architectural design, digital technologies and representation media, as well as postgraduate modules at the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete.
His research interests focus on the relations between digital technologies and design, digital culture and architecture, and the application of science and technology studies in architectural research. In 2015 he founded and is now coordinating the Advanced Design Lab at the School of Architecture.
His is the author of the book ARCHITECTURE AND ADAPTATION: From Cybernetics to Tangible Computing (London/New York: Routledge, 2016). He has published scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings on subjects relevant to his research interests. Since 2014 he is coordinating an ongoing research program for the study of strategic interventions and proposals for the sustainable development of the industrial settlement Aspra Spitia by C. Doxiadis (in collaboration with the company Aluminium of Greece). He has been a member of several international conference committees, he has organized architectural workshops, and participated in several research programs, architectural shows, international and national architectural competitions. He has been awarded with "L’Architettura Automatica" Prize in Bologna and "Keppie Prize" in London for his designs and research on transformable computationally-driven architecture. Since 2002 he is working with architectural practices in London and Athens for the design and construction of private housing and residential development projects, leisure centers, shopping complexes and landscape design projects.
