Papatzani Evangelia

Eva (Evangelia) Papatzani holds a PhD in Urban Studies/Urban Social Geography and Migration Studies from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). She also holds a Diploma in Architecture from the School of Architecture, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning, at NTUA. Her PhD thesis entitled “Geographies of migrant settlement and encounters with difference in urban space: negotiating social proximities and micro-segregations in Athens' neighborhoods” has been supported by two scholarships from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI-GSRT) and the National Technical University of Athens.
She is an Adjunct Professor of Sociology of Space at the School of Architecture at the Technical University of Crete, and has also served as a Teaching Assistant at the School of Architecture, NTUA. She has extensive research experience in international and national research projects at the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE), the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia (UVA) in the U.S.A., School of Architecture NTUA, the School of Spatial Planning and Development (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), the Department of Geography (University of the Aegean), the Regional Development Institute (Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences) and the Research Centre for the Humanities (KEAE). 
Her research interests focus on the geographies of migrant and refugee settlement, displacement and mobility in urban space, housing and urban policies, access to affordable housing, gentrification and touristification, urban encounters with difference and otherness, negotiations of social proximity, interethnic relationships and micro-segregation, institutional and everyday racism, gendered geographies, neighborhood and everyday life, and broader urban transformations.
He has participated in international and Greek conferences and has published a book, articles in international and Greek academic journals, chapters in edited volumes and research reports. She has also participated in the scientific and organizational committees of international and Greek conferences, and is a reviewer of academic journals.
