Professor Costas Providakis was born in Chania, Greece (1960). He received the Structural Engineer degree and the PhD degree in the area of Mechanics of Structural Materials from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1983 and 1988, respectively. Since 2013 is a Professor and serves as the Director of Applied Mechanics and Structural Materials Lab in the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete, Greece.
He also served as Assistant Professor (1996-2002), Associate Professor (2002-2008) and as full Professor (2008-2013) in the Department of Applied Sciences, Technical University of Crete, Greece.
He has published 3 books, more than 45 journal articles, 70 Conference articles, and 35 technical reports.
He serves on the editorial boards of the Techscience Press Structural Durability and Health Monitoring International Journal and Hindawi ISRN Journal of Mechanical Engineering.
He has given invited lectures and short courses in Italy (1998-1999), Germany, England and Spain in the area of Mechanics of Structural Materials and Fracture Mechanics.
He has been invited as an invited speaker in several international conferences USA and Europe.
He has served as Chairman of the theses of 5 doctoral and 16 master's students.
C. Providakis directs a group of 6 graduate students.
He has extensive consulting experience as technical advisor and Expert Witness.
