School of Architecture - Technical University of Crete
Dr. Barbara Charalambidi, holds a PhD in civil engineering and is currently affiliated with the TUC. Her expertise focuses on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete, fatigue performance, and advanced strengthening techniques using composite materials (FRPs). She has conducted both doctoral and postdoctoral research on large-scale RC elements strengthened against flexure and shear, including the use of piezoelectric sensors for structural health monitoring. Her scientific work combines experimental projects, finite element modeling, and the integration of artificial intelligence in mechanics. She has received a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece and has published in leading journals and participated in international conferences related to reinforced concrete seismic design and monument restoration. She has extensive experience in applied research and project coordination, including collaborations with the Ministry of Infrastructure and has participated in major restoration studies of historic monuments and medieval fortifications in Crete and other regions of Greece. She is actively involved in national committees for post-disaster damage assessment and has contributed to pilot digital twin applications in the field of structural assessment.
