The purpose of this course is the study of basic mathematical concepts that are necessary for the understanding of problems of structural design.
The course covers the following: Trigonometry. Conic sections. Optimization problems using derivatives. The exhaustion method of Archimedes. Surface area and volume of a solid by using integrals. Arc length. Second order ordinary differential equations. Systems of linear equations. Inner and cross product and applications. Coordinate systems: Cartesian, spherical, polar, cylindrical. Second order surfaces. Moments, gravity center.
