This course is the first contact of the students with the design process within the realm of urban public space. Within the framework of the design of a public building with a certain complexity on a specific location within the city fabric, students are asked to approach their subject conceptually, typologically and morphologically.
The defining parameters of the methodology are the conceptual interpretation of the program, the location and geometry of the site, as well as the relations between different scales, materials and design principles with the urban surroundings of the site. Issues of identity complete the complexity of the design and learning process.
Analysis and careful study of selected buildings and projects as well as midterm presentations by the students, and lectures by the tutors complete the theoretical and practical input to the studio, which is composed of student teams of 2 or 3 members.
