Undergraduate Studies

School of Architecture - Technical University of Crete

Architectural Design Studio V

The course focuses on the design of a public building, considering the interrelation of the site and the urban tissue. The students approach conceptually, topologically, typologically and morphologically the multi-layered design of a large-scale public building dedicated to culture

Through analysing the program, site conditions, topography, climate, and building orientation, along with considerations of scale, materials, and contextual style define the architectural synthesis. Factors such as architectural identity, functional requirements, and volumetric design further contribute to the intricate process of creating a cohesive architectural proposal.

The examination and exploration of significant existing buildings, along with the lectures presented during the workshops involving small groups of two or three students, are intended to both reinforce practical and theoretical understanding and to promote a pragmatic approach towards achieving the learning objectives.
