The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with the organized construction of a residential area. The course covers issues related to social cohesion, housing policies, the integration of new residential areas into the urban fabric and the tools for achieving this goal.
The course is structured in two sections: In the section on theory, international and Greek practices for the integration and planning of new residential areas are examined, with reference to socially excluded groups and the best strategies for housing and integrating these groups into the urban tissue today. The course examines case studies for housing over time and factors that have contributed to its present form.
In the second section, students design a residential area of specific population capacity for which they propose networks of public spaces, functions, neighborhood units and residence models.
