Regional Planning

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the geographical expression of economic, social, cultural and ecological policies, aiming at the balanced regional development and the physical organization of space, in accordance with sustainable strategies.

The course examines the context of human activities allocation, ensuring equal access to services and infrastructures, balancing city networks and urban-rural relations, managing natural and cultural resources and protecting the environment. The course analyzes the basic concepts and principles of regional planning and the planning tools and methods.

The course includes a section of theory, where lectures analyze the above issues and a section of planning project. The project aims in the formulation of proposals for the development of an area. Key criteria for planning are productive synergies, rational management of natural resources, transition of the model for tourism from mass to quality and the organization of transport networks and infrastructure into an integrated system.
