This course provides specialized knowledge for planning urban historic areas. The aim of the course is initially to familiarize students with the observation, recording and the formulation of proposals according to the principles of modern conservation in historic area. The course is structured in two sections. The section of lectures analyzes issues such as urban planning of historic centers over time and current trends, policies for historic city centers, the phenomenon of gentrification and the formulation of strategies and proposals for the sustainable urban conservation. In the second section, students propose regulations and directions in a historic center of Greece according to its particularities, based on the principles of urban conservation.
