Topics of contemporary architectural and urban design in historic built environment

The course analyses topics such as:
i.  Continuity and discontinuity in urban history
ii. Principles of urban structure – the role of buildings and large public areas and infrastructure.
iii. Integration of architectural design in historic environment and the role of open space in the city.
An urban site is given in order to redesign the functionality and insert new constructions, if necessary. The students works in groups of two or individually to produce: 
Sketches, examples, axonometric, perspectives Maquettes in scale 1/200 and 1/100 Technical drawings  in scale from 1/200 to 1/10 All above, shall be organized on one or two sheets DIN A1
 The principal aims and tools of the course are:
• Approaching composite concepts and correlations among history, collective memory and public functions of the contemporary city
• Analysis and evaluation of remarkable examples from around the world through profound typological and morphological research
• Definition and development of design objectives through group work• Understanding and managing methodology through the design tools developed within a studio class
